Jordan King urges participatory ICT strategy

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, urged stakeholders to devise a multipartite strategy to further uplift the information and communications technology sector and boost its competitiveness as a key underpinning of the national economy.

The King stressed the importance of the ICT sector's contribution to the national economy and called for striking a closer private-public sectors partnership to achieve the aspired progress and surmount challenges. His Majesty ordered the government to take into account this key sector while implementing the national 10-year economic plan, saying the ICT domain is a key supplier of job opportunities. The priority now is addressing challenges the ICT sector has been face in the past ten years, the King said while meeting with representatives of the ICT sector in the Kingdom.

He added the ICT field should move into a new phase of productivity, efficiency and competitiveness that promote Jordan's investment environment regionally and internationally.

King Abdullah called on stakeholders and investors to make use of the world economic forum which will be held in the Kingdom next month.

In spite of regional turmoil and challenges, the King said, Jordan is pressing on with the development of various sectors of the economy, particularly the telecommunications and information technology.
