UNICEF apologizes to Jordan over "inaccurate" child report

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Jordan has received an official apology from the UNICEF head office in New York over incorrect figures and indicators the international organization cited in a recent report on violence against children in Jordan.

In a letter sent to the government, the UNICEF said the figures included in the report were derived from a "non-documented" study by the World Health Organization, Social Affairs Minister, Reem Abu Hassan told Petra.

The recent UNICEF report inaccurately placed Jordan among countries in the Middle East with high rates of violence against children and did not rely on statistics from the concerned bodies in the kingdom.

Hassan said the UNICEF ordered all of its offices not to issue reports on Jordan but after consulting with concerned authorities. The international organization pledged to release an update to its report and correct the inaccuracies it cited, the minister added.
