Biden Reaffirms US Support for Iraq in Its War against Daesh


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) US Vice President Joe Biden has reaffirmed the support of the United States and the international community for Iraq's efforts to reclaim its territory from the Daesh organization.

Biden held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al Abadi, currently visiting Washington, and discussed recent security developments inside Iraq. Both leaders agreed on the need for continued progress to forge a more inclusive and durable Iraqi political order, as well as plans to help Iraq stabilize areas liberated from Daesh.

They further discussed regional issues and agreed on the need to support Iraqi sovereignty and independence and seek to lower sectarian tensions across the region. Biden and Al Abadi will co-chair a discussion on key areas of cooperation between the US and Iraq on Thursday, the White House announced in a statement.

The leaders "will chair a session of the US-Iraq Higher Coordinating Committee, bringing together officials from across the US and Iraqi governments to discuss energy, economic cooperation, and other issues in the bilateral relationship, under the auspices of the Strategic Framework Agreement," a White House statement said.
