Ukraine to cut gas consumption by 6.1 percent in 2015

(MENAFN) Ukrainian Prime Minister said that his country will reduce natural gas consumption by around 6.1 percent this year to 40 billion cubic meters, Xinhua reported.

Ukraine's gas consumption would decline this year as a result of the introduction of energy-saving technologies, the usage of alternative fuels and economic slowdown.

Last year, Ukraine reduced its gas consumption to 42.6 billion cubic meters from 50.4 billion cubic meters in 2013 due to the crisis in energy-intensive industries triggered by the political conflict.

"Increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption is a priority for the country," Ukrainian Prime Minister said in a statement at a cabinet meeting.
