Bahrain welcomes UNSC Resolution on Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Kingdom of Bahrain on Wednesday welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2216 on Yemen as "a crucial and necessary step for restoring the security and stability of Yemen and preserving its territorial unity and integrity." The UNSC's resolution reflects a vast international understanding of the humanitarian and security situation in Yemen, and embodies a global agreement on confronting acts of violence and terrorism and underpinning the pillars of legitimacy, the Bahraini government said in a statement.

The resolution will certainly pave the way for completing the political process and allowing all the sides that are keen on Yemen's security and stability to return to dialogue in line with Yemeni, regional and world agreements, mainly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Initiative and its executive mechanisms, relevant United Nations Security Councilآ's resolutions, it said.

Furthermore, Bahrain reiterated its support for all steps aiming to enable the legitimate leadership to perform its duties, restore security all over the country and bring about development and stability, according to the statement.

But, it also called on all Yemeni sides and UN member-states to fully abide by the UNSC resolution.
