Senate passes Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Law

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Senate's Legal Committee, Wednesday endorsed the draft Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Law as referred to them from the Lower House with a number of amendments.

The committee omitted a sentence from the third article which requires that the material being used for domestic riot control purposes is tear gas, in line with international standards.

The committee also noted the ninth item of the second article of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, which was joined by Jordan.

The item indicated the purposes for which using chemicals was not prohibited including law enforcement and domestic riot control.
