China's retail sales up 10.6 percent in Q1

(MENAFN) Data showed that China's consumer spending posted a double-digit growth in the January-March period of 2015, despite mounting pressures the country is facing, Xinhua reported.

The world's second-largest economy's retail sales increased 10.6 percent from the same period a year earlier in the first quarter, reaching USD1.15 trillion, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

However, the growth slowed from an annual increase of 12 percent last year. In March, retail sales surged 10.2 percent from a year ago, compared to a 10.7 percent rise in the January-February period.

Online retail sales of goods and services surged 41.3 percent to USD124.18 billion in the first quarter. China's economic growth slowed to 7 percent in the first quarter this year, down from 7.3 percent a quarter ago.
