French, Qatari FMs discuss Gulf situation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius hosted talks here in Paris Tuesday with Qatar's visiting Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Attiyah, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The two officials discussed both bilateral and international issues, particularly the situation in the Gulf Region, the statement said.

Among bilateral issues, the "strategic partnership" between the two nations was addressed and it was remarked that this partnership has now reached "an exceptionally dense" level in the political, economic and trade domains.

On regional issues, the foreign ministers broached the crisis in Yemen and Fabius reaffirmed "the determination of France to obtain a robust, lasting and verifiable agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme." Fabius on Monday had again expressed strong solidarity with the Coalition forces seeking to re-establish stability and security in Yemen and maintain the unity of that country.

Fabius has also taken a tough stance on the Iranian nuclear question and has pushed for solid guarantees that Iran will not seek to build a nuclear bomb and he has also urged rigid inspections of Iranian facilities to ensure any agreement is being respected by Tehran.
