Spanish FM discusses regional, int'l scene with Arab counterparts


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Recent Arab and international developments have been the focus of separate talks held here between Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo and Arab counterparts.

Spain's chief diplomat had bilateral talks with foreign ministers from Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan and Plestine on the sidelines of a major EU-Mediterranean consultation conference that ended in Barcelona Monday night, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

They focused on Libya, the Middle East peace process and the developments in Mali.

The ministers stressed the necessity of a rapid agreement for a comprehensive ceasefire and forming a national government to realize security and stability in Libya, the statement added.

On Palestine, they stressed the need for developing fresh ways to restore the political path likely to help achieve the two-state solution.

Foreign ministers and representatives from the 28 European Union member states had taken part in the Barcelona gathering along delegations from Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority and Tunisia.
