Iran FM suggests Yemen settlement plan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran's visiting Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif proposed here on Tuesday an Iranian initiative to contain the current Yemeni crisis.

The plan envisions a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, talks by all Yemeni sides and an inclusive government, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told a joint news conference with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

"I proposed a ceasefire followed by all inclusive Yemeni dialogue that is facilitated by others, leading to the formation of a government in Yemen that represents a broadly based community," Zarif said.

He emphasized that a solution to the Yemeni crisis should be reached through a national inclusive process involving all Yemeni parties.

On the recent nuclear deal, the Iranian foreign minister underlined that all economic sanctions on Iran should be lifted immediately, rather than gradually, reiterating his country's abidance by the recent framework agreement.

On terrorism, Zarif voiced Iran's willingness to work with the region's countries and the international community to fight terrorism and threats to regional and world security and stability.

For his part, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said Spain is fully ready to cooperate with all countries in the region in the security field.

He said Iran can play a significant role in the fight against "terrorist groups", mainly the ISIL.

On his talks with the visiting Iranian foreign minister, he said they had discussed ways of promoting and developing bilateral cooperative relations, especially in energy.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived here earlier in the day for a one-day official visit to Spain.
