UNSCR 2216 victory for Yemen legitimacy, Arabia Gulf diplomacy

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Yemeni Ambassador to UN Khaled Al-Yamani said on Tuesday that UN Security Council resolution 2216, which was approved earlier, was a victory not only for the constitutional legitimacy in Yemen but for the Arabian Gulf diplomacy.

Al-Yamani, in a statement to KUNA, described the Gulf diplomacy as wise, mindful, and flexible in terms of softening the "dilemma of the Russian diplomacy," by working over the past two weeks to convince the Russians to be part of the solution instead of being part of the already complicated problem.

The ambassador added that Yemen expected such stance from the Gulf Cooperation Council, expressing his content for such a position that reflects Arabian Gulf inherent relations, which are supporting the Yemeni people and constitutional legitimacy, led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Al-Yamani added that the Gulf position confirms that they live in one area with common destiny.

Al-Yamani said that today's UN resolution is very important because it brings together all the previous resolutions of the Security Council together.

Earlier, Under Chapter VII, the UNSC adopted resolution 2216 demanding that all Yemeni parties, in particular the Houthis, to abide by the resolution and refrain from further unilateral actions that could undermine the political transition in Yemen.

The Council (minus Russia) further demanded that the Houthis immediately and unconditionally, end the use of violence, withdraw their forces from all areas they have seized, including the capital Sanaa.

The resolution demands Houthis to relinquish all additional arms seized from and institutions, including missile systems, as well as cease all actions that are exclusively within the authority of the legitimate Government of Yemen.
