Oman's infrastructure, economy discussed at logistics seminar


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As part of this year's GCC Supply Chain and Logistics Conference a pre-event seminar on market outreach was organised on Monday to discuss the sultanate's rapid infrastructure development and fast-growing economy.

The day-long seminar provided international delegates insights into Oman's logistics and supply chain industry and various economic programmes that focus on attracting foreign direct investments business opportunities in key sectors and in major ports and free zones.

The keynote address at the event was delivered by Peter Young advisor to the Minister of Transport and Communications while other speakers included Emad Khamis al Shekaili director - Service Investment Ithraa; Jesse Damsky chief commercial officer Port of Salalah; Reggy Vermeulen chief executive officer Port of Duqm Edwin Lammers chief commercial officer Port of Sohar and Warith al Kharusi executive director of Al Safwa Group and chairman of the Oman Logistics & Supply Chain Association (which is under formation).

The seminar was followed by a workshop which was facilitated by Jon Harris an international professional development coordinator at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. The workshop discussion focused on the logistics and supply chain skill gap challenges opportunities and how knowledge sharing and skills auditing can help Oman's development and support the Omanisation process.

The GCC Supply Chain and Logistics Conference is being organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in cooperation with Al Nimr Conferences. The conference will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Oman Auditorium of Al Bustan Palace a Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
