(MENAFN) The Chinese government said that the world's second-largest economy's trade witnessed an across-the-board decline in March, The Peninsula Qatar reported.
The country's exports dropped unexpectedly by 15 percent in March from a year earlier, hitting USD144.57 billion, while imports plunged 12.7 percent to USD141.49 billion.
The monthly trade surplus, which had hit consecutive records in January and February, fell 60 percent to USD3.08 billion, the General Administration of Customs said.
"International market demand was slack and export orders have declined. Comprehensive costs remained high so that the traditional competitive advantages were weakened," Customs spokesman said.
