(MENAFNEditorial) Microsoft Jordan kicked off the second edition of its Technology Rocks! Competition, which aims to introduce school students, aged between 11 and 17, to the most recent technology innovations such as Windows App Studio, Visual Studio 2013, Construct2, and Unity 3D. As part of the Competition, participating students are required to create applications and games on Nokia Lumia smartphones that operate Windows Phone and Windows 8 using the mentioned technologies. The competition drew the participation of 110 students from 5 public schools and 14 private schools across the Kingdom.

During the competition, participating students will attend eight, three-hour training sessions, four of which will take place at the Jordan Gaming Lab and the remainder of which will be conducted online via Microsoft's Lync Web Application. The students will also gain access to Microsoft's team of experts who will teach them about project design methodologies using the newest gadgets, giving them the tools and knowledge they need to successfully complete their projects and win the competition. The 26 participating teams will be judged based on a set of criteria that includes: Uniqueness, Concept, Concept Justified with Research, Monetization Model, Growth Analysis, Usability of Layout and Design, and Execution.

In addition to the main award categories of Best App Competition and Best Game Competition, Microsoft Jordan will be granting the titles of: Best Branding Concept, Best Citizenship, Best Design, Best Documentation, Best Engaging, Best Functioning, Best Presentation Skills, Best Social, Best User Interface Design, and Best Utility.

"Launching the Competition for the second consecutive year corresponds with our strategy to promote innovation and creativity among students, and to arm them with the skills they need to enter the ICT sector. This approach is closely aligned with our efforts to support the national plan to advance this particular sector, which is considered a main pillar of the local economy. Following its resounding success last year, we believe that Technology Rocks! is a great, unconventional way of exposing young individuals to the latest technology advancements and key entrepreneurial skills at an early age in order to help them excel in today's dynamic work environment," commented Microsoft Jordan Country Manager, Hussein Malhas.
