One dead in US campus shooting

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least one person was killed Monday in a shooting on a college campus in the state of North Carolina, local media reported.

The library of Wayne Community College in Goldsboro sent the campus into lockdown as law enforcement officers were looking for the suspect, reported local news website WRAL.

"Lock Down. This is not a drill. The entire campus is under lockdown," reads a message posted on the school's website.

An eyewitness said the victim, whose identity has not been released, was a teacher, according to Godsboro Daily News.

The suspect was described as white, about about 5 feet 11 inches (180 centimeters) tall wearing a blue jacket and carrying a long rifle, the local media said.

Police was treating the incident as an active shooter situation, with a heavy law enforcement presence including state officers on the campus, said Fire Marshal Brian Taylor.

Two nearby schools were also on lockdown, WRAL reported.
