UAE eager to boost trade with Albania

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The United Arab Emirates is looking forward to accelerate cooperation with Albania in all economic fields, including energy, renewable energy, tourism and agriculture, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, has said.

In a speech delivered at the opening of the UAE-Albania Economic Forum in Abu Dhabi today, Al Mazrouei said non-oil trade between the two countries grew by 24 percent in 2013 to reach US$ 11.4 million, compared to US$ 9.1 million in 2012.

"For us, this small figure does not meet our expectations for a larger level of cooperation. We look forward to increasing the trade exchange between the two countries to the levels aspired by their leaders," he added.

He urged the Albanian government and private business sectors to consider the opportunities available in the UAE for investment and to propose practical steps to overcome any obstacles facing joint investments.

"The UAE is a world hub for air and sea transport, exports and re-exports. Moreover, the country's banking and financial sectors are capable of providing support to investors," Al Mazrouei said.

Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama said Albania was currently focusing on integration with the European Union.

"As a small economy in Europe, we have a lot to do to become part of the EU and we are currently working on improving development rates," he said.

He revealed that Albania was currently engaged in talks with DP World for a strategic partnership and future cooperation.
