(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Morocco has sharply condemned an attack on its embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli early Monday, urging Libyan authorities to open an investigation into the incident.
An explosion hit the front gate of the Moroccan embassy in Tripoli today morning. Though no one was injured in the blast, the embassy's gate and a nearby building were damaged.
"The Kingdom of Morocco voices much concern over and condemnation of this terrorist act which is a blatant violation of international law and diplomatic norms," the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a release here on Monday.
The ministry also called on Libyan authorities to open an immediate investigation in order to find the secret layers of this "criminal and heinous attack".
However, Morocco reiterated its support for UN-facilitated Libyan political dialogue involving all political rivals in order to restore security and stability in this North African country.
The attack on the Moroccan embassy in Tripoli came just a day after bombing the South Korean embassy in Libya, killing two Libyan guards.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the bombing targeting the Moroccan embassy.
The group had claimed responsibility for several recent assaults on embassies such as those of Egypt and Algeria in Tripoli, attacking mostly empty buildings as most countries have pulled out diplomatic staff because of the security situation.
