Heavy snowfall hits eastern Turkey


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Heavy snowfall and harsh winter weather conditions are continuing to adversely affect Turkey, with more heavy snowfall leading to the closure of many roads across the eastern provinces of Rize and Erzurum on April 12.

In the eastern part of the Black Sea region, roads and highways were closed due to heavy snow.

The İkizdere-İspir, Aksar-Veterans-Karaurgan, Sarıkamış-Karaurgan and Köprüköy-Söylemez-Haciömer-Karayazı highways were closed due to snow fall in Erzurum, according to a statement from the Meteorology Regional Directorate.

Ä°kizdere Deputy Governor Abdil Koc said transportation was interrupted along the Rize-Erzurum highway and highway teams were working to restore normal traffic flow.

Meanwhile Kırklareli, the capital of Kırklareli province on the Thracian side of Turkey, experienced hot weather with temperatures around 22 degrees Celsius and people flocking to tea gardens and picnic areas.
