China's foreign trade down 6 percent in Q1


(MENAFN) Official data showed that China's foreign trade volume dipped by 6 percent from the same period a year earlier in the first quarter to reach USD902.3 billion, Xinhua reported.

Exports rose by 4.9 percent from a year ago to USD514.38 billion, while imports shrank by 17.3 percent to USD390.28 billion, according to data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

In the first three months of the current year, trade surplus jumped 6.1 times to USD123.3 billion, while in the month of March alone, trade surplus contracted by 62.6 percent to USD2.97 billion.

Last month, foreign trade into the country decreased by 13.5 percent over the previous year, with exports and imports dropping by 14.6 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively.
