British Tesco sales edge up 0.3 percent in Q1

(MENAFN) British retail giant Tesco said its sales increased in the previous quarter, adding to signs of a tentative recovery in the supermarket's future under its new boss, Oman Observer reported.

Industry data showed that market share figures from researchers Kantar Worldpanel also showed discounter Aldi overtaking upmarket chain Waitrose to become Britain's sixth largest supermarket.

Since joining in September, new Tesco chief executive has been fighting back by cutting prices, increasing product availability, cutting queues and improving stores. Tesco's sales rose 0.3 percent in the first quarter.
