Russia denies threatening US spy plane in Baltic sea


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Russia denied on Saturday that their military planes threatened a US spy plane over the Baltic Sea.

Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, in a statement broadcasted by Russian television, that US aircraft, RC-135, was approaching the Russian border with its transponder switched off before it was intercepted by a Su-27 fighter jet.

Konashenkov said the fighter jet flew around the US plane several times and did not form any threat.

Earlier, US military sources said that a Russian Su-27 fighter intercepted a US plane in unprofessional way and posed a danger to the safety of the plan and its pilot.
