Jordan echoes rejection to Israeli plan to build airport near border

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordan on Sunday repeated its rejection towards an Israeli plan to build an airport near the Jordanian coastal city of Aqaba at the northeastern tip of the Red Sea.

Jordanian authorities have notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) about this matter, said the transport ministry's spokesperson Ali Odaibat.

The organization will vote on the Jordanian objection and make a decision on the airport in terms of its impact on Jordan's aviation sovereignty and public safety there, he added.

The spokesman pointed out that officials from ministries of foreign affairs and transport is in touch with several international organizations on this issue, stressing Jordan's keenness to protect its airspace.

Jordan strongly refuses Israel's planned Timna Airport which is close to the King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba.
