Pakistani model Ayyan Ali's remand extended to 14 days

Islamabad: A special customs court on Saturday extended the judicial remand of supermodel Ayyan Ali in a money-laundering case amid complaint by customs authorities that she is not cooperating in the investigation.
The court also ordered for presenting of challan of the case on the next date of hearing.
The inquiry officer told the court that more time is required for preparation of challan.
During the hearing customs authorities presented a report regarding investigations carried out in the case so far. Customs authorities present in court also stated that Ayyan did not cooperate during investigation.
Ayyan Ali requested the court during the hearing that she wanted to present some witnesses to prove her innocence.
The court while accepting her plea ordered the customs authorities that statements of all the witnesses be recorded and made part of challan.
The challan be presented before it at every cost on next hearing.
The court later extended Ayyan’s judicial remand to 14 days and adjourned the hearing till April 24.
Ayyan was arrested by customs officials on March 14 from Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport after 508000 dollars were recovered from her possession.
She was arrested for violation of Section 2(s) of the Customs Act 1969 which is a ‘predicate offence’ under the anti-money laundering act 2010.
The offence is non-bailable and non-cognisable which is why the Federal Board of Revenue’s director general of intelligence and investigation is also seeking permission to investigate it.
While talking to fellow inmates in prison Ayyan has indicated that once she is freed from the jail she will shoot a film on life in prison inPakistan highlighting the plight of inmates DawnNews reported.
She went on to say that this film will be a bigger hit than her previous work.
According to legal experts if charges against Ayyan Ali were proven in the court she can be sentenced to 14 years in jail while a fine can also be imposed on her.
