UAE- Of chocolate cheese and etiquette


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) 8 Emirati girls visit Switzerland for crash course on rules of etiquette and global protocol.

Sharjah — Eight Emirati girls in the age group of 12 to 18 went to Montreux Switzerland for eight days for a crash course in the art of hospitality dining table design floral arrangement and among other things financial management.

The point of the trip — organised by Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah and sponsored by Sharjah Islamic Bank — was for the girls to “learn the rules of etiquette and global protocol” and “to gain deeper insight into different cultures”.

At Institute Villa Pierrefeu IVP the girls attended daily workshops and classes on the organisation of official ceremonies the rules of etiquette and tact and how to interact with people in daily life and at social events.

Shaikha Aisha Khalid Al Qasimi Director of Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah said: “The trip offered the girls the opportunity to discover Swiss society and learn etiquette financial management and social event planning ... which gave them a glimpse into new concepts different cultures and behavioural and social skills that contribute to the development of their personalities and creativity.”

The Switzerland trip is part of a series of programmes organised in the UAE and abroad that is in line with the vision of the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to provide necessary facilities for the new generation of Emirati ladies.

Asma Hassouni creative design coordinator at Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah accompanied the girls on the trip. Hassouni said: “We are extremely pleased with the participation of the girls on this trip and their commitment to the fun training programme that enabled them to learn behavioural skills necessary for them … and enhance their competence to actively participate in the diverse social landscape of the UAE.”

Cheese chocolate and bus tours

The girls also went to a chocolate factory in Rue Jules Bellet where they were introduced to the process of making Swiss chocolate. They also tasted cheese fondue in Gruyères a town known for its Swiss fondue cheese industry.

The girls were also given a bus tour around Switzerland to see its landmarks and monuments including the UNHCR and UN headquarters. They also visited the 10 km high Jet d’Eau fountain.
