UAE Oman join forces to foil drug trafficking

Abu Dhabi — In five separate operations nine drug dealers were caught with 13kg of heroin and 34000 narcotic pills by the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Directorate General for Combatting Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of Oman. These arrests were made during January and February this year.

Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi Director-General Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General said the operations have dealt “a painful blow” to drug dealers. He commended the joint efforts of the various anti-narcotics authorities in the UAE and Oman. He said the “outstanding results” were achieved due to “the expertise and competence of the anti-narcotics officers in charge of combatting drug-trafficking gangs”.

Elaborating on the details of the operations Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi said: “Acting on the information received from the competent authorities at the sisterly Sultanate of Oman the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General mounted the first and second operations which led to the seizure of 12.5kg of heroin and the arrest of two individuals an Arab and an African from Umm Al Quwain and Ajman. Another 2500 narcotic pills were seized in UAQ.”

In Ras Al Khaimah an Arab and an Asian were arrested and 9000 narcotic pills were recovered from them said Col Al Suwaidi.

“In the third and fourth operations two African women were arrested in possession of half a kilo of heroin and three Arabs were arrested in Dubai in possession of 22500 narcotic pills.”

Colonel Al Suwaidi expressed his appreciation to the officials at the Directorate General for Combatting Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of the Sultanate of Oman praising their constant and unrelenting cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General. He also praised the role of the Omani authorities in boosting regional and international cooperation in the fight against drugs and stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination with the entities concerned in GCC countries. —
