QU college launches MSc in Marketing

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar University (QU) College of Business and Economics (CBE) recently launched a new Master of Science (MSc) in Marketing, which will begin in Fall this year.

The MSc programme, the first of its kind in Qatar, is designed to provide students with an advanced theoretical foundation in marketing and develop their research competencies in the field, including techniques of data collection and analysis, according to a statement.

A distinctive feature of the programme is the student/corporate mentor activity in which classroom knowledge is applied through practical field experience in a diverse range of companies in the business sector, the

statement adds.

The programme offers a focus area in sports marketing as it aims to align with national ambitions to advance a vibrant sports culture and the positioning of Qatar as a key international sports destination, primary of which is the hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The two-year programme offers a thesis track and a practical skills track. The focus of the former is to gear students towards research on consumer attitudes and behaviour and covers domestic, regional and international marketing issues.

The latter aims to equip students with skills and knowhow on the processes and approaches to marketing by several leading companies in Qatar and prepare them to assume senior managerial and leadership positions in various areas.

Commenting on the new degree programme, CBE dean Dr Nitham Hindi said: "This specialist degree adds to a growing portfolio of graduate programmes at the college and demonstrates our commitment as a key partner with organisations throughout Qatar to contribute to the national development strategies."

CBE associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Belaid Aouni noted that students of the programme will gain wide experience, which is much needed in Qatar across the employment spectrum in government, industry, business, media, sport, academia and civil society.

Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing Dr Rana Sobh said, "This is an exciting and challenging field and we are looking forward to welcoming the first batch of
students."
