Doha Hosts 142 Countries Participating in UN Crime Congress


(MENAFN- QNA) The works of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice will begin Sunday in Doha until April 19. UN Secretary-General and delegations from 142 nations, including 110 heads of state and premiers.
Legal Advisor to the Minister Interior Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Maal, who is also president of the congress' Preparatory Committee, held today a press conference with Secretary of the 13th Congress Jo Dedeyne to discuss the latest in preparation for hosting the event.
Al Maal said that preparations were complete to host the congress. He thanked HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for the directives. Al Maal also thanked HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani for following up on updates of the preparation process.
He noted that the 5,000 attendees that will participate in the congress representing 142 countries is happening for the first time in the history of the event. He noted that there will be 230 workshops held during the course of the event discussing 75 topics.
For her part, Dedeyne paid tribute to Qatar as hosts for setting a high standard in preparation for the congress. She added that the work done so far will be the cornerstone for the success of the congress.
