Abu Dhabi — Abhishek Prakash celebrated his birthday with a match-winning performance for Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s in the inaugural ECB Under-19 National Cricket Tournament on Thursday.

The off-spinner who turned 15 on Thursday returned with figures of 6-3-6-3 with a miserly economy rate of just one run as the Abu Dhabi team defeated Dubai Cricket Council Under-19s by 48 runs at the Fairgrounds Dubai.

One of the bright prospects from the MCC-Zayed Cricket Academy Abhishek was playing his first match of the tournament. And the lad who was part of the MCC-Zayed Cricket Academy’s maiden tour of Sri Lanka last year grabbed the opportunity with both hands to put his team in the final.

It was all the more special as Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s had to win this game to qualify for the final. They had lost narrowly by one wicket in a thrilling game against Sharjah Cricket Council Under-19s on Wednesday. Abu Dhabi had posted 182 and Sharjah recovered from 78 for seven to make 183 for nine. Abu Dhabi had beaten Ajman Cricket Council Under-19s in their opening game.

Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s will get a chance to take revenge as they face Sharjah Cricket Council Under-19s in the final at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council’s Zayed Cricket Academy ground on Friday.

Sharjah Cricket Council Under-19s had walloped Ajman Cricket Council Under-19s with a comprehensive nine-wicket win at Al Dhaid. “It feels good to perform well. I just bowled normal deliveries and I bowled a good line” Abhishek told the Khaleej Times.

Abhishek’s began by removing opener Waruna Perera who was caught by Osama Hassan on 65. He then went on to have Clive Oswald leg before for two before castling Ram Narayan for 34.

Sharjah come into the final on an unbeaten run but they hold no fears for Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s.

“We played against them and we lost narrowly. So I think we have a pretty good chance” added Abhishek. Put into bat Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s posted 218 thanks to a composed 47 from Jonathan Figy.

Figy’s knock came from 78 balls and had one boundary. Osama Hassan then chipped in with 43 from 57 balls with two boundaries and a six. Opener Hanzalah Khan had made 26 from 60 balls with one boundary after which Mohammed Riyan scored 25 from 31 balls with three boundaries.

Medium pacer Ahsan Abbas took three for 21 while Salah Shakeel picked three for 53. Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Under-19s then shot out Dubai Cricket Council Under-19s for 170 with medium pacer Yodhin Punja snapping up three for 53 and Osama Hassan taking three for 21. On Wednesday Dubai had beaten Ajman by 81 runs. The two teams will meet in the play-off for the third place in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
