Border Guard commitment impresses foreign media
(MENAFN- Arab News) Local and foreign journalists have been given access to the front lines to help them report an accurate picture of Operation Decisive Storm.
A media delegation that included representatives from CNN Reuters Der Spiegel and Bloomberg were taken to Mashreq Mountains along the Saudi-Yemeni border near Jazan by Border Guard's Hamid Abdullah Saeed.
The delegates were dressed in 8 kg bullet-proof vests. The journey from Jazan to the mountains was two-hour long. They had to crisscross rocky terrain to reach the location.
Despite the difficult journey the journalists expressed their fascination with what they observed along the border between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. They used the opportunity to capture images that displayed high coordination between all wings of the armed forces. The soldiers were in high spirits.
'We noticed that the Saudis have the most advanced military equipment and weapons in the world' Bernhard Zand of German magazine Der Spiegel was quoted as saying in a local newspaper. 'No media outlets can change or hide this fact: Not only do you have a powerful military force but you also posses high moral spirit. You are not afraid of death and you have the right to be proud of all that you possess.'
Nic Robertson senior international correspondent at CNN also described the perfect harmony between the Ministry of Interior and the armed forces.
'I was struck by the abilities of the Border Guard despite being among the most difficult terrain. Reaching this summit is very difficult and the focus and determination of these men as well as their modern equipment indicates that the border of their country is safe and cannot be tampered with easily' said Robertson.
Angus McDowall of Reuters noted the high moral among citizens and troops. 'You have citizens who are ready to sacrifice their lives for their country and this is proof that you are all fond of this country and will not allow any attacks against it' he said.
'Now we can see the purpose of Operation Decisive Storm' said Hassan Al-Taali of Al-Arabiya. 'The purpose is to support the people who have been subject to the oppression of the Houthi terrorists. We can see that the border is strong and protected well by its men who are immensely loyal to their leaders and their homeland.'
