Moroccan economy grows by 4.4 percent in Q1

(MENAFN) Morocco's government announced that the country's economy recorded a growing GDP of about 4.4 percent in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the previous year, Reuters reported.

The country witnessed a lagging economy by the end of 2014, which marked a sluggish 1.8 percent growth in the year's fourth quarter, in spite of the greater agricultural productivity.

However, in this year, the agricultural sector yielded a 12.5 percent increase in the first quarter, with cereal production showing an 8.8 percent rise, according to Morocco's Planning Agency.

It is worth mentioning that agriculture accounts for more than 15 percent of the country's economy. On the other hand, the non- agricultural sector showed a slight 3.2 percent growth in the first quarter.
