Katara to host Asean Festival


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Visitors at Katara Cultural Village will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich and diverse culture of Southeast Asia at the Asean Festival to be held from April 30 to May 2.

The seven members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) present in Qatar including Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand will take part at the festival with a range of events and activities such as musical and folkloric performances, art exhibitions and traditional dishes.

While the cultural shows will be staged at the Katara Drama Theatre, stalls will be put up at the Katara Corniche for the various exhibits showcasing the unique aspects of the culture of each Asean-member country.

Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti recently met Malaysian Ambassador Dato' Ahmad Jazri Mohamed Johar to discuss ways to enhance cultural cooperation through the Asean festival.

"Katara is keen to host everything new and open to other cultures to realize our humanitarian mission seeking to build bridges of communication between nations, said Dr Al Sulaiti.

He invited the public to witness the Asean festival which will serve as a tourism and cultural journey because of the seven countries' rich and diverse cultures.

Ambassador Johar expressed appreciation of Katara's efforts and its leading role in the cultural movement in Qatar and his admiration of its architecture, facilities, centres and world class theatres.
