African Food Festival gets under way at LuLu Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The African Food Festival was inaugurated at LuLu Hypermarket, Al Gharafa, yesterday.

The idea behind the festival, which is being hosted by LuLu Hypermarket Group as part of its Food Fiesta 2015, is to discover the uniqueness of African cuisine and promote African food products in the Middle East, according to a statement.

The festival was inaugurated by diplomats from various embassies in Qatar, including Saad Cachalia, ambassador of South Africa; Daniel Tanui, minister counsellor, Kenyan embassy; Hamodi Check, ambassador of the Central African Republic; and Krzysztof Suprowicz, ambassador of Poland, in the presence of various dignitaries and senior executives from the retail industry.

LuLu Hypermarket Group has been organising the food fiesta since 2002 and is hosting the African Food Festival for the second time. According to the LuLu management, it received an "overwhelming response" to last year's African Food Festival from expatriates as well as the local community. This year, the festival is being held until April 12, at all LuLu Hypermarket outlets.

The festival is largely focused on food products from South Africa, Central African Republic, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Ethiopia. A wide range of African food products, including South African meat and meat products, Ceres juices, Ina Paarman's seasoning and masalas, Nando's sauces, yam, avocado, pineapple, passion fruit, plum, apple, lemon, fine beans, black grape, mango, banana Mozambique, nectarine, pears Packham, snow pears, sugar snaps, tinda, green chili, garlic, baby papaya, eggplant, matooke green banana, banana flower, banana apple, jackfruit and Habanero hot peppers, is on display.

The statement stresses that LuLu Hypermarket Group has long-lasting trade relations with many African countries and regularly promotes almost all major African food products in the Middle East through its hypermarkets. LuLu has also set up buying houses in Africa, including in Kenya and Tanzania, and has regular bulk imports of a vast range of food products from all African countries.
