Saudi- Volunteer who has a passion for saving lives

(MENAFN- Arab News) Volunteers serve humankind especially in disaster situations.
Mohammed Saleh Ahmad 21 works as medical superintendent of the volunteer team at the Civil Defense Department in Jeddah.
'When I was a child I watched series and films where they showed first aid; the hero always saved lives by giving first aid. Such films always inspired me and I always thought you could become a hero by saving lives' said Ahmed.
Ahmed started working as volunteer at the age of 17 at an orphan's volunteers club.
'I enjoyed helping others. It gave me tremendous experience and satisfaction but I was interested in medical voluntary work so the 'Civil Protection' medical team helped me enter the field of medical first aid' explained Ahmed.
It was not easy for Ahmed to cope with such a responsibility.
'In first aid your small effort can save someone's life but it's a very big responsibility as there is no room for error. I struggled with the hard work in keeping myself up-to-date with the standards of Health Ministry medical volunteers' added Ahmed.
'I discovered that it's hard work and it's concerned with people's lives. When I first went to the Saudi Red Crescent they rejected me because I was only 18 at that time. But when I reached the proper age I joined them as a third medic with paramedics' said Ahmed.
Ahmed did courses in disaster and crisis management and is now a first responder in disasters and crisis situations. He also works as a first-aid teacher and has trained a number of school university and college students.
Ahmed wants to complete his studies in emergency medicine and wants to introduce safety practices to the general public. He hopes to do a TV show on the subject.
