Qatar- 113 families benefit from Food Saving Bank


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Food Saving Bank, an innovative humanitarian initiative of the Sheikh Eid Charity Foundation provided food to 113 needy families this week.

The project was launched to collect excess food from homes, companies, weddings and other gatherings and distribute it to needy families and individuals including low-income workers and housemaids.

The project focuses on 13 areas across the country, especially those dominated by low-income expatriate workers and families. The initiative is supported by donors including families and companies.

Besides cooked food, a number of families also receive food rations from the charity on a regular basis. The items include rice, meat, fresh chicken and fresh meat, vegetables, dates, sweets, among others, the Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.

The charity has 11 vehicles for collecting food from the donors and for door- to-door delivery. They take rounds in different areas in Doha and outside areas.

The organizers also make sure that the food is handed over to families and houses at convenient times.
