British Academy of Sport holds Volleyball Tournament


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 22: The British Academy of Sport (BAS) and the Romanian Embassy in Kuwait organized Kuwait's Second International Volleyball Tournament for the Independence Cup on March 20 at the BSK Campus in Salwa.

The reputation of last year's inaugural event was such that 12 teams represented their Embassies and Countries: Bangladesh Bulgaria India Iran Lebanon Palestine Philippines Romania Russia Tunisia USA and Zimbabwe.

It was a highly charged and emotional day with very strong teams and great matches. The semifinals were played between Iran and Lebanon and Tunis against Zimbabwe. After 4 rounds of highly competitive and skilled matches the team representing Tunisia were declared the winners of the Independence Cup. The victory was sweet as it fell on Tunisia's National Day.

A large number of the Ambassadors of the participating countries reviewed the teams in the opening parade and supporters from the various communities came to urge on their teams and enjoy the spectacle with their families and friends. KTV and local press and media outlets covered the event.

Madame Vera Al Mutawa MBE H.E Romanian Ambassador to Kuwait Vasile Sofineti Kefah Al Mutawa and The Director of British Academy of Sport Lucian Anisia presented the awards on the stage to the teams the sponsors and the referees from the Kuwait Volleyball Federation. There was a huge roar when the Independence Cup was presented to Team Tunisia.

After this successful tournament BAS is planning to organize a Volleyball Tournament for ladies in October where all the Embassies in Kuwait will be invited to register their team.
