Kuwait Association for Kidney Diseases holds 2nd marathon


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Kuwait Association for Kidney Diseases held its second marathon Wednesday on the Gulf Road with the theme 'A Healthy Kidney for Everyone'. The event was aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of engaging in sports and maintaining a healthy diet to prevent many diseases like obesity and high blood pressure.

Speaking at the event Chairperson of the association and Head of Kidney Transplant and Diseases Department at Hamid Al-Essa Medical Center for Organ Transplant Dr Turki Al-Oteibi disclosed the marathon is part of Kuwait's celebration of World Kidney Day which falls on the second Thursday of March every year. Sheikha Awrad Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was among those who attended the event.

According to Al-Oteibi the marathon is one way of informing the public on the nature of diseases affecting the kidney. He said this is in addition to encouraging people to be active and to have a healthy lifestyle while avoiding unhealthy foods in order to prevent obesity and other conditions which could cause heart and kidney problems.
