Guard ready...Strategic food stock at all time high


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 27 (KUNA): The Kuwait National Guard (KNG) is on full alert and ready to address any kind of emergencies said an official here Friday. In a press statement designated Undersecretary at KNG Major General Hashim Al-Refaei said the National Guard has taken the necessary steps to face any challenges that might threaten Kuwait's security.

The KNG under the guidance of the country's leadership is ready to defend the land and will also fully cooperate and coordinate with other defense entities such as the police and army to protect Kuwait against any harm said Al- Refaei.

Meanwhile Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry Anas Al- Saleh reassured citizens on Friday about the country's strategic food stocks saying they hit an alltime high level. 'Kuwait's strategic food reserves have hit their highest ever-recorded level' the minister said in a press release adding that the ministry is in touch with the private sector to secure additional food commodities if necessary.

The minister added that he had instructed his ministry's control agency to step up inspection measures in order to curb a possible staple price rise at the local market amid the current regional circumstances.

Al-Saleh however urged citizens and expatriates to inform the ministry about potential hikes in the prices of food items according to the statement. A number of other government bodies have taken precautions in aspects of health food availability and security to ward off any emergency that might affect the country as the region is going through some difficult times. In a statement to KUNA Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obaidi said his ministry was ready to deal with any emergency.

On his part Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah heading a meeting with security officials Thursday said that all government bodies should be prepared to provide total security and safety to all people in the country. Kuwait had emphasized Thursday that its participation in operation Decisive Storm was based on its being signatory in the GCC joint defense treaty and did not conflict with the constitution.

This participation comes in view of escalating events in Yemen caused by the continuation of Houthi militias to use violence to tear apart the legitimate government of Yemen and these militia's threats and violations vis-a-vis Saudi Arabia. National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim had also indicated in a press statement on Thursday that the Kuwaiti leadership informed him about the participation of the Kuwaiti air force in the military operations in Yemen at the request of Saudi Arabia. He said the nature of the Kuwaiti participation was in accordance with the GCC joint defense treaty and did not conflict with the Kuwaiti constitution.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said it was essential that peace and security would be restored to Yemen through adherence to UNSC resolutions the Gulf Initiative and the resumption of a national dialogue. A major world donors' event for Syria due here in few days and implications that might arise due to the military operation on Yemen have unleashed huge efforts by state authorities making arrangements for potential emergencies. Ahead of the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria slated for March 31 and a potential impact of Yemen's 'Operation Decisive Storm' Kuwait's three top security bodies held a high ranking meeting on Thursday to discuss relevant plans.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah chaired the meeting attended by senior officials of his ministry the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard. Schemes to guarantee national security and people's safety were the chief topic based on the domestic front plan. Kuwaitis in Britain were warned by their embassy to steer clear of crowded locations for their own safety and protection. 'The warning comes in the wake of the complicated regional security situation' Kuwait Embassy to Britain told KUNA in a statement on Friday. Kuwaiti nationals were also advised against discussing the politics of the region in public places. In cases of emergency the embassy has provided the 24-hour hotline (+44) 207-590-3400 which is ready to provide all forms of support and assistance.
