Vietnam and US commence naval drills

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Two US warships on Tuesday began joint naval drills
with Vietnamese forces with an emphasis on 'unplanned maritime
encounters', dpa cited a news
report as saying.

The five-day exercise off the coast of Danang includes submarine
rescue operations and practice of the Code for Unplanned Encounters
at Sea, a protocol designed to limit the potential escalation of
conflict, Tuoi Tre newspaper said.

Vietnam recently acquired three submarines from Russia, and has three
more on order.
