One-year prison term for Gulf national in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Criminal Court has sentenced in absentia a young Gulf national to a year's imprisonment and imposed a fine of QR10,000 on her for trying to prevent a public employee from performing his duty, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The punishment also includes a fine of QR3,000 for causing disturbance in an inebriated state and insulting a taxi driver using abusive language, the daily adds.

The woman, who consumed alcohol in a hotel, was returning to her place when she got involved in a dispute over fare with a taxi driver. During the argument, she insulted the cabbie, who then stopped a police car, according to the report.

The police found her in an inebriated state and nabbed her. The woman, however, put up a resistance when they tried to catch her, the report further states.

She then left the State without attending the court sessions and was, therefore, sentenced in absentia under Article 180 of the Penal Law.
