Malaysia's exports down 9.7 percent in February

(MENAFN) The Malaysian government said that the value of the country's exports dropped by 9.7 percent in February, dragged down by lower commodity prices and weak global demand, Oman Observer reported.

The total value of exports in the month decreased by USD1.55 billion, reaching USD14.53 billion for the same period last year, the Malaysian Department of Statistics released data showed.

The agency noted that while the volume of refined petroleum products exported edged up by 0.5 percent in February, the actual receipt declined by 32.5 percent due to weak global oil prices.

Malaysian exports to China, the country's largest market, dropped by 21.3 percent. The decline in exports came after an annual fall of 0.6 percent registered in January.
