(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The latest report by the US travel website Skift has rated Oman as the best tourist destination in the world for 2015.
Skift a global provider of information and data relating to the travel and tourism sector gave the ranking based on the tourism elements offered by the sultanate.
The ranking comes as a shot in the arm for the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) that has been making sustained efforts to put Oman on the global travel map as a preferred destination in the Middle East that offers adventure recreation and cultural holidays. The National Centre for Statistics and Information has stated that 2.1mn tourists visited Oman in 2013. The number increased last year. MoT's plans for 2015 include expanding the range of facilities and services to tourists.
Oman holds the advantage of a diverse landscape strategic geographical location besides historical cultural archaeological and architectural wealth. Boosting its tourism potential are several ports and luxury resorts. The country is emerging as a hub for international conclaves. Around 80 airlines operate from the Muscat airport. Oman Air is looking to expand in a big way in the coming years by increasing its fleet and adding more cities to its destinations.
