Dubai — Australia’s excellent bowling in the death overs and handsome contribution with the bat from the top order played big roles in their 2015 World Cup triumph according to cricketing great Dean Jones.

“It was an excellent win for Australia. I think we played really well. Michael Clarke led well and Darren Lehman’s coaching was brilliant. But the best thing that worked for Australia was their excellent bowling in the death overs and great contribution from the top four batsmen” Jones told the Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the United Reale Group SuperStars T20 cricket tournament launch in Dubai on Saturday.

Australia beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the final last week for a record fifth World Cup victory and their fourth in the last five tournaments. Jones believes his countrymen never take a match for granted and they have already looking at the 2019 World Cup in England.

“Our players have spoken that they have to be very careful over a period of four years as we look to retain the title. We do everything right. We start the trend and others follows” he said.

Jones also lauded the effort left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc and taking leggie legend Shane Warne’s criticism in the right spirit .

“Most kids go backward after criticism. He got a rocket from Sharne Warne. But it was nice to see him bounce back and it’s good that he has taken the mantle from Mitchel Johnson” said Jones also a World Cup winner.
