Palestinian FM Welcomes Chinese Peace Efforts


(MENAFN- QNA) Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyadh Al-Maliki met here today with China's Special Envoy to the Middle East Ambassador Gong Xiaosheng.

During the meeting, Al-Maliki briefed the Chinese envoy on the latest political developments related to the Palestinian problem and the outcome of the Arab League Summit, held last week in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, in addition to the acceptance of Palestine at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the following steps.

He underlined the Palestinian leadership's keenness on finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the international legality's resolutions calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Malki called for the continuation of China's support for the Palestinian political and diplomatic moves at the international forums, especially the UN Security Council to support a draft resolution to end the occupation and to prevent any attempt to obstruct the Palestinian diplomatic moves at international organizations which are aimed to protect the Palestinian people from the incessant Israeli practices and violations.

For his part, Ambassador Xiaosheng expressed China's keenness on that attainment of progress in the peace process and the need to end the conflict and to remove all obstacles hampering progress in that process. He also stressed the need for the alleviation of the Palestinian people's suffering through the provision of facilities to enable the entry of assistance materials and the implementation of humanitarian projects in the occupied territories.
