Pakistan- 6 militants killed, 5 injured in airstrikes

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Pakistani army's airstrikes targeted alleged militant hideouts in the remote Tirah Valley near the Afghanistan border.

At least six suspected militants were killed and five others were injured in Pakistani army's airstrikes in the country's northern Khyber Agency tribal region Saturday, an army official said.

The airstrikes targeted alleged militant hideouts in the remote Tirah Valley near the Afghanistan border. The valley is believed to be a stronghold of the Taliban-affiliated militant group, Lashkar-e-Islam, and has been the epicenter of numerous airstrikes since October 2014 when the Pakistani army's Khyber One military operation began in the region.

A similar operation is ongoing in adjoining North Waziristan tribal area since June 2014 to flush out militants loyal to Pakistani Taliban.

According to the army's claim, over 2,400 suspected militants have been killed in the two military operations, while over 100 soldiers have also lost their lives. The operations have also displaced around 1.5 million tribesmen.
