(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkish citizens, who were earlier evacuated from Yemen to Djibouti via a Turkish navy vessel, are now on their way to Turkey by air, official sources told The Anadolu Agency Saturday.
Turkish embassy officials escorted 55 Turkish citizens to the airport in Djibouti from where they boarded a Turkish Airlines' flight to Istanbul.
Turkey's Chargés d'Affaire in Djibouti Ismail Altunal added that seven Kosovo nationals, who were evacuated by an Indian ship earlier this week, were also being sent along to Istanbul.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry Friday, the Turkish naval vessel, TCG Buyukada Frigate, had evacuated 55 Turkish citizens from the Yemeni port city of Aden and later dropped them off in Djibouti.
Yemen has been in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, from where they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
Several Arab states have joined the Saudi-led offensive which started on March 25 with a string of airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, including some in Sanaa.
