US- Clinton signs lease on 'cool' Brooklyn campaign HQ

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Hillary Clinton is yet to announce her run for the White House, but she's picked New York's gentrifying, hipster-obsessed borough Brooklyn for her campaign headquarters.

A source said that her team had snapped up two floors in a building that calls itself "Brooklyn cool" in fancy neighbourhood Brooklyn Heights for her 2016 campaign headquarters.

The lease was signed on Wednesday at 1 Pierrepont Plaza, a 19-storey building with 24-hour security in the neighbourhood packed with brownstone homes and stunning river views of Manhattan.

Politico, which broke the story, said the clock is now ticking on Clinton's announcement.

Election commission rules allow only 15 days between conducting campaign activities and filing a campaign committee, which could see Clinton announce her candidacy by April 16.

The building is close to two dozen bus and subway lines, the Long Island Railroad and the expressway, which leads across bridges into Manhattan and east to JFK and La Guardia airports.

Clinton's neighbours at the property will be investment firm Morgan Stanley and the US attorney for the eastern district of New York.

And if she or a staffer is looking for a quick pick-me-up to fend off long hours, they can pop down the road to Starbucks or stock up on burgers at a nearby Shake Shack.

If her second bid to become America's first woman president needs inspiration then she can look no further than past local residents Norman Mailer, Arthur Miller, W H Auden and Thomas Wolfe.

The building's leasing agent refused to comment and Clinton's media team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Clinton was US senator for New York from 2001 to 2009 and has a home in Chappaqua in the suburbs.
