Lebanon fails again to elect new pres.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Lebanese parliament has failed for the 21th time to elect a new president of the republic to replace former President Michel Sleiman due to lack of quorum.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nabih Berri adjourned Thursday's presidential election session to April 22 due to failure to secure quorum, Berri's office said here on Wednesday.

He stressed that 86 members of the 128-deputy parliament should be present in the session to require for a presidential session to be held.

Lebanon's fiercely divided 128-member legislature, tasked with choosing a new head of state, has been unable to agree on a consensus candidate to replace former President Michel Sleiman, whose five-year term ended on May 25, 2014.
