Jordan Prime Minister returns to Amman

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour returned Wednesday to Amman after heading the Jordanian delegation to the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, which concluded in Kuwait yesterday evening.

The conference saw the participation of delegations representing 78 countries and about 40 international organizations.

On Tuesday, Jordan launched an appeal to the international community to finance the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) 2015 to deal with the Syrian crisis. The plan needs an estimated funding of about $3 billion.

In a speech at the opening of the Kuwait meeting, Ensour said that the JRP had set forth the burdens being borne by Jordan and evaluated the needs of both refugees and hosting communities alike.

He noted that Jordan has become the third largest host country for refugees worldwide.

Contributions made by countries and donors, who participated in the conference, have reached nearly $4 billion to support the humanitarian situation in Syria.

On the sidelines of the conference, the premier met with Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, and expressed Jordan's appreciation for Kuwait's supportive stances towards the Kingdom.

He also held a series of meetings with heads of delegations and organizations taking part in the conference.

Before leaving Kuwait on Wednesday morning, Ensour visited Jordan's embassy in Kuwait and met with Ambassador Mohammad Al-Kayed and the embassy staff in the presence of Kuwait's Ambassador to Jordan, Hamad Al-Duaij.

He praised the embassy's efforts in consolidating fraternal relations between Jordan and Kuwait.
