(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Police quiz Mejlis deputy head Umerov for seven hours and search his house.
Russian police have stormed the home of Crimean Tatar national assembly deputy head Ilmi Umerov and questioned him for seven hours as part of an investigation into the deaths of two people during an anti-annexation protest in February last year.
Umerov said on Wednesday that police examined documents in his house, and after failing to find anything that might incriminate him, apologized and left.
The search and questioning were part of a probe by Russia police into the deaths of two protesters during a demonstration on February 26, 2014, against Crimea holding a referendum to become independent of Ukraine and join Russia.
Umerov also said that he was warned by police not to organize a support rally for the ATR network, the first independent Crimean Tatar network which had to stop broadcasting on Tuesday night, after it failed to obtain a permit from Russian authorities.
Nariman Celal, another deputy head of the national assembly, or Mejlis, has also been warned by police not to call for rallies to support ATR.
