Houthis kill 7 soldiers in Yemen's Ad Dali

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Shiite Houthi militants on Tuesday shot dead seven soldiers in Yemen's southern Ad Dali city, a military source has said.

"Houthi militants killed seven soldiers from the 33rd Brigade after they refused to heed orders to shell Ad Dali city," the source, requesting anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency.

Houthi leaders could not be reached for comment.

Earlier Tuesday, Houthi militants thwarted the escape of dozens of soldiers loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Ad Dali after their camp was bombarded by Saudi-led coalition warplanes.

Since last Wednesday, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have pounded Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says the strikes are in response to appeals by embattled President Abd Rabbu Manshour Hadi to "save the [Yemeni] people from the Houthi militias."

Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.

Some Gulf countries accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
